Winter Storm in Kailua Kona

Many of our viewers on Hawaii Island won’t get to see this video tonight, because many don’t have power due to the strong winds we have been getting knocking trees down and causing outages. The wind also caused some amazing storm waves today and we went out to check it out.
We take you to Kailua Bay, the sea wall and the Kailua Pier to show you how the wind whipped waves were coming up and onto the pier and smashing against the seawall to toss up water that was kicked by 45 mph wind gusts into oncoming traffic..and some folks who enjoyed the dousing.
What started out as a blizzard warning for the upper elevations and summits, turned into a tropical storm that has affected much of the entire island and we are not out of the woods yet.
To stay safe, keep an eye out for alerts from the County Civil Defense Agency. Here is their website and you can sign up for alerts. https://www.hawaiicounty.gov/departments/civil-defense/active-civil-defense-alerts-and-maps

Flooding is expected and we are still looking at two more days of this storm. When its done, we should have over a foot of snow on Mauna Kea…yes, we will go up.
Stay safe, folks on the island!
